Complete Description:
Oracle Database Developer
Purpose: This position will work with the Java AA1 position and assist DHS staff in designing, developing and deploying reports within the Departments new Eligibility System. This system is Java-based and extensively uses the Oracle Stack.
The reports will include:
i. Traditional periodic management reports using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and publishing to structured areas within the new system.
ii. Dashboard-style reports built from the application transactional production database in real time or near real time. These style reports will provide high level summaries such as applications processed, applications in queue, average time to process, etc. These reports will be deployed within the architecture and structure of the system using role-based security and provide full drill capability to the underlying detail data.
iii. Paramaterized reports built within the system either/both the production database and/or the reporting database. These would include parameters such as demographic groups, time scales, program groups, etc. These reports will be both summary and detail type.
b. Framework – The system is a Java-based system built on the Oracle stack of products. They include:
i. Oracle Database Components:
1. Oracle Database Enterprise Edition
2. Oracle Database Lifecycle Management Pack
3. Oracle Diagnostics Pack
4. Oracle Active Dataguard
5. Oracle Advanced Compression
6. Oracle Data Masking
7. Oracle Database Advanced Security
8. Oracle Database Vault
9. Oracle Real Application Clusters
10. Oracle Partitioning
11. Oracle Tuning Pack
12. Oracle Audit Vault Collection Agent
ii. Oracle Stack Environment:
1. Oracle Linux
2. Apache
3. Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
4. Weblogic Suite and Management Pack
5. Oracle SOA Suite and Management Pack
6. BPM Suite
7. Enterprise Repository
8. Web Center Suite
9. Policy Automation
10. Identity and Access Management (OIM)
11. OIM Connectors; Internet Directory, Database Application Table, Active Directory.
c. Experience:
i. The person should have extensive experience designing and developing database(s), database objects, stored procedures, views, web services, etc. in support of a transactional system.
ii. The person should have experience working in a full Oracle environment stack.
Senior level Database Administrator may work with more than one database architecture or have deep knowledge in a specific application database or set of databases to support architectural or decision support activities. The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for data analysis and database management. DBAs are typically involved in maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning. DBA’s have a range of skills and knowledge of the utilities and production tools used for data storage management to support the Application Team. DBAs must be able to work in a team environment, follow quality standards and have strong written and verbal communication skills. DBAs coordinate physical changes to computer data bases; and codes, tests, and implements physical data base, applying knowledge of data base management system: Designs logical and physical data bases reviews description of changes to data base design to understand how changes to be made affect physical data base (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics, such as location, amount of space, and access method). Establishes physical data base parameters. Codes data base descriptions and specifies identifiers of data base to data base management system or directs others in coding data base descriptions. Calculates optimum values for data base parameters, such as amount of computer memory to be used by data base, following manuals and using calculator. Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items, such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data. Specifies which users can access data bases and what data can be accessed by user. Estimates time and cost required to accomplish project. Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to data base management system. Reviews and corrects programs. Answers user questions. Confers with coworkers to determine impact of data base changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to data base. Modifies data base programs to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning. Workers typically specialize in one or more types of data base management systems. May train users.
