The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding a Database Administrator to our growing Technology division in Seattle, WA. You will be responsible for providing technical support for the database environment.  This includes overseeing the security, development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing IT with insights to align database technology with the company’s business needs. Other responsibilites include:

Database Environment

Manage database backup and recovery procedures to meet the company’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).  Test backups to ensure Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) can be met.Take ownership to drive Tier-1 database-related incidents/tickets to completion in a timely manner.Collaborate with McKinstry Business Systems, Corporate Services Systems, Finance & Accounting Systems, and IT Operations to help achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives.Perform application tuning and database performance monitoring.Troubleshoot database server service outages as they occur, including after-hours support.Assist developers in improving the performance of poor-performing queries.Ensure that data is protected from unauthorized access and maintain database access security and integrity.Configure monitoring of database servers and resources.  Develop support plans for all database environments, including creating stored procedures and scripts to automate recurring database administration processes.Create and maintain documentation on McKinstry’s database environment.Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities during maintenance window.Deploys database change scripts provided by developers and third-party vendors.Uses established change control, documentation and communications processes.Ensures SQL Server license compliance and cost-effective use of existing licensing.When performance issues arise, determines the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.Other duties as assigned.

Communication

Closely collaborate with technology team, and other staff from across the enterprise in data and application integrations.Provides internal stakeholders with regular reports of resource-intensive queries and suggests ways to improve performance.Organize, articulate, and advocate on best practices for the use of SQL tools.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization, project and application development teams, management, and business personnel. 

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Five (5) years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment required.Three (3) years of demonstrated experience as a SQL Server DBA required.Experience with the following is required:Supporting MS SQL Servers in an enterprise environmentSecurity best practicesSQL Server high availability technologies, such as failover clustering, database mirroring and Always-on Availability GroupsSQL Server Integration Services and Reporting ServicesProfiler tracesDMV queries to proactively manage servers and individual database performanceT-SQL, stored procedure development, query optimization and tuning.Experience with the following is a plus:Strong System Administration background in Active Directory, authentications (e.g. Kerberos, gMSA), and Windows Server OS.Database monitoring with Redgate and SolarWinds/DPA is a plus.Supporting enterprise payroll and ERP systems is a plus.Power BI Report ServerExperience with cloud-based offerings, technologies and architecture. Demonstrated experience in transitions between on-prem and cloud hosting services is a plus.Experience developing and owning data warehouse solutions in large scale, complex enterprise environments is a plus.Strong team player, able to work independently and as a participating member of technology team in charting initiatives, direction and best practices across the enterprise.

The pay range for this position is $80,100 - $134,400 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
