Database Administrator

Currently seeking a Database Administrator to be a part of a remote team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The ideal candidate needs to have experience and knowledge in database design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of software in a variety of programming languages.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Essential Functions:
+ Analyze, maintain, and optimize the database environment to ensure 99.9% availability and data integrity.
+ Identify and resolve bottlenecks, optimize queries, and enhance data retrieval efficiency.
+ Update database architecture, build schemas, tables, stored procedures, and manage permissions.
+ Provide recommendations on policies, procedures, and emerging technologies.
+ Monitor systems for availability, oversee database mirroring, replication, and failover.
+ Support SQL Server Analysis and SQL Clustered Column Store Index (CCI) technology.
+ Generate queries and reports using SQL Management Studio and SQL server tools (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, SSMA, Sentry Diagnostic Utilities).
+ Create, populate, and maintain databases and data cubes for analysis and reporting.
+ Restore databases from backups and support disaster recovery activities.
+ Work with developers, analysts, and IT teams to design, implement, and resolve database issues.
+ Assess future storage needs, create and maintain comprehensive database documentation.
+ Communicate effectively with customers, stakeholders, and technical specialists.
+ Position is 100% remote – Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM EST.
Required Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
+ A minimum of 5 years of experience is required.
+ Proficiency in database administration and performance tuning.
+ Strong understanding of PostgreSQL database systems.
+ Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including infrastructure design, deployment, and management.
+ Experience with automation tools and scripting languages for infrastructure and database management (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Python).
+ Experience developing strategies for data migration, backup, and disaster recovery in cloud environments.
+ Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and departments.
Additional Qualifications:
+ Experience working with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other federal agencies.
+ The following certifications are a plus: MongoDB certification, AWS certification, Azure certification, etc.
+ Experience in SAFe/Agile Software Development.
+ Ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder and DevSecOps environment.
+ Ability to obtain government clearance.
