We’re looking for a DBA developer / data engineer to join the Ookla Data Engineering team and help us process the world’s best collection of data on mobile and fixed internet performance. As a DBA developer you will be focused on making sure our databases are maintained and we have the correct tools and processes around them. Applicants should have a strong, data-focused background and be passionate about accuracy and performance. You will work on big data using the latest technologies.

Expectations for Success:
Assist and help architect high volume data solutions to be as optimized as possible in various datastores including MySQL, Redshift, Athena, IcebergWork closely with Data Engineers to turn theory and methodology into viable productsIdentify bottlenecks in system performance and make recommendations on improving process efficiencyAssist other teams planning and execute larger maintenance, process optimizations or migration projects.Support and collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product managers

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experienceStrong working knowledge of SQL, databases (MySQL / Redshift / Athena / Trino), data modeling, and modern data warehouse (lakehouse) managementStrong understanding of programming concepts with experience in at least 1 OOP language (Python, Scala, Java)Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skillsExcited to learn and work with new technologies in a dynamic environmentStrong communication skills both in person and via virtual mediumsStrong time management skills and a self driven work ethicExperience with AWS cloud services is a plusExperience with high volume distributed data processing in Spark is a strong plusExperience with event driven architecture and streaming data pipelines is a plusBackground check required
