The DB2 Database Administrator is a position responsible for the planning, implementation, configuration, and administration of relational database management systems. The DBA frequently interacts with project management, the client and application developers. The DB2 DBA possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of DB2 DBA to the completion of moderately difficult assignments. DBAs are normally familiar with one or more computer languages, such as SQL, QMF or COBOL. The DB2 DBA is preferably a Certified IBM DB2 Database Administrator.
Responsibilities:
Provides database administration support. May be assisted by Entry Level DBAs and usually reports to or works with a Senior Level DBA.
Implements and maintains database structures, monitors and tunes database environment for improved application and system performance.
Ensures integrity and recoverability of database structures.
Migrates application data across multiple database platforms.
Provides guidance and recommendations for efficient use of database resources.
Analyze database requirements for OLTP and reporting and analysis applications.
Review physical data models submitted in CA AllFusion format for design integrity and adherence to published CMS database standards
Make recommendations for, and implement, appropriate security structures.
Develop and execute appropriate Data Definition Language (DDL) to support projects.
Provide query performance monitoring and tuning recommendations.
Performance data export and imports
Develop scripts to support applications and database administration functions.
Review and approval for all application based scripts, utilities, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
Perform database backup and recovery
Provide input on instance parameter settings and tuning
Provide general database expertise to application projects
Responsibility for database integrity of production databases.
Responsibility for database backup and recovery
Responsibility for database monitoring and tuning of database and application SQL
Responsibility for database provision and capacity planning for adequate database storage.
Responsibility for security and integrity of database environment.
Responsibility for execution and monitoring of database utilities and scripts.
Provide change management and documentation for database changes.
Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity.
May be assisted by Entry Level personnel and usually reports to or works with a Senior Level Analyst.
Adheres to applicable CMMI policies and procedures.
Responsible for providing suggestions for improving our CMMI standard processes and procedures for area of responsibility.
Qualifications:
Experience Requirements
3 – 5 years of related professional experience years in a database analysis and design with experience using DBMS tools and software.
Expertise with database backup and recovery issues, including hot backup scenarios.
Expertise with SQL tuning and SQL development
Expertise with physical database design issues.
Experience with the CA AllFusion data modeling tool
Experience in management of Very Large Databases (VLDB) of 250 GB or greater preferred.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field is required.
An Associate’s Degree with 2 years of related professional experience or three (3) years of directly related professional experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree requirement.
Certification in DB2 Database Administration is preferred. Required Skills
Familiar with IBM DB2 UDB for z/OS software.
Familiar with coding and operations on an OS/390 or z/OS Mainframe environment (JCL, IBM Utilities, Hardware, etc.).
Familiar with one or more data access coding methods and reporting tools (COBOL, SQL, QMF, etc.).
Familiar with 3rd party software products used to support processing requirements in the most cost effective and timely manner (BMC, Platinum, etc.).
Familiar with Security requirements for DB2.
Familiar with all aspects of Database design and object creation.
CA Allfusion/ErWin.
Ability to work well as a team player.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Skills in Business requirements analysis and documentation.
CANDIDATES need to have either a BS or MS with about eight years work experience
