Danone North America (DNA) is looking for a Decarbonization and Data Manager on the Packaging Research & Innovation team, for their North American based Division, to be located in Louisville, Colorado or White Plains, NY.
The Decarbonization and Data Manager will drive packaging decarbonization efforts and is responsible to develop and manage the data systems needed to realize our sustainable packaging goals, inform corporate sustainability strategy, and provide necessary reporting data. This role will build and manage the systems needed to measure our sustainable packaging decarbonization progress, as part of our Danone Impact Journey and Science-Based Targets for decarbonization. You will also dive deep into new Extended Producer Responsibility laws to model opportunities to optimize our fees and find ways to accelerate our transition to circular and low-carbon packaging. You will report to our Director of Packaging Sustainability and will work closely with our Packaging Circularity and Engagement Manager, as well as a cross-company team of collaborators from teams including Mission & Sustainability, Public Affairs, ESG Finance, Carbon Finance, Procurement, Engineering, and Brand teams.
In this role you will be accountable for:
Developing (or selecting and integrating) systems and tools to track packaging sustainability metrics across our DNA portfolio.Supporting the business with needed data about packaging materials, recycled content, formats, recyclability and other metrics for government, customer, voluntary, and other reporting needs.Contributing towards corporate strategy in meeting Danone Impact Journey goals with data-driven insights, particularly within the area of packaging decarbonization for USA and Canada. Collaborating with stakeholders on NORAM Mission & Sustainability, Cycles & Procurement, Engineering, Finance, and associated global colleagues to realize our Danone Impact Journey goals.Evaluating carbon footprints of packaging innovations using life cycle assessment tools. Building and evolving a packaging decarbonization roadmap to ensure Danone North America meets or exceeds our Science-Based Targets for CO2e reduction within the packaging scope. Leading complex decarbonization-related packaging engineering projects within Danone NA (flex model, approximately 20% time). Collecting, managing, and submitting packaging related data for state EPR and PCR reporting, voluntary external reporting such as to the US Plastics Pact, customer reporting such as Walmart Gigaton, and internal global Danone Impact Journey reporting.
The base compensation range for this position is $110,000-165,000 commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor or Masters degree in Engineering or Science field (Packaging, Mechanical, Data, or related engineering or science accreditation). Additional credentials in sustainability studies a plus, but on the job sustainable packaging experience will also be considered. 7-10 years’ work experience in a packaging engineering field (preferably in the food or beverage industry) with relevant sustainability experience.Experience navigating existing Danone packaging-related data systems (e.g. Temis, SAP, HowGood Latis, LORAX Envi) considered a plus. Demonstrated leadership in cross functional teams involving operations, supply chain, procurement, etc. Lateral thinking and problem solving. Technical expertise with rigid plastics (PP, PET, HDPE), flexibles (lids, pouches, sachets) and paper-based packaging (corrugated, compact, liquid paper packaging). Experience conducting product and/or packaging life cycle assessments. Knowledge of GHG Protocol and carbon accounting. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver results by working autonomously with minimal supervision. Ability to create a roadmap for short term and long-term results. Excellent project management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-starter, autonomous and demonstrated ability to bring new unsolicited ideas.
