Degree and Transfer Specialist
Location: All Locations, United States Category: Professional Posted On: Thu Jan 16 2025 Job Description: SUNY Empire is seeking a Degree and Transfer Specialist in the Office of the Registrar. The chosen candidate will work as part of a team whose primary responsibilities include evaluating and applying advanced standing credit to student records, creating and maintaining student degree audits and providing guidance regarding policy and procedures to the university community. The Office of the Registrar at Empire State University provides a wide range of services for students, alumni, faculty and staff, which include recording and reporting academic information, calculating, recording and reporting academic standing, graduation clearance, transcript services, transfer evaluation, enrollment verifications and certifications, collaboration on the academic calendar, enrollment reporting and forecasting, and publications including the term guide and the university catalog. The office maintains all official student, alumni and curricular records for the university, and it ensures the accuracy and integrity of the curricular and student records. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: + Evaluating transferability of prior learning from regionally accredited colleges, military experience; non- collegiate sponsored instruction evaluated by ACE and/or NCCRS, and other pre-evaluated professional learning. + Working with the Assistant Registrar for Transfer to create course equivalencies with input from faculty, assisting in the maintenance of the articulation tables, and applying transfer credit to student records. + Assisting in the maintenance and review of undergraduate student degree audits using Degree Works. + Supporting academic review by researching answers and responding to questions regarding advanced standing credit and degree audit. + Providing support within the office regarding technology for transfer and degree audit processes, including assisting with the transition to new technologies. + Working as part of a team and assisting with specific projects as assigned. Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. + Excellent computer skills + Ability to work independently as well as be a strong team player + Strong attention to detail + Clear and effective communication skills Preferred Qualifications: + 2+ years' work experience in higher education + Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English + Experience utilizing student information software, particularly Banner and Degree Works + Experience working in a distributed environment + Experience with transfer credit and/or degree audit + Demonstrated system-level thinking and problem-solving skills + Experience working with an adult student population + Prior experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
