DEIR Communications Intern

Office Details

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect (DEIR) is the central hub at the American Chemical Society that coordinates, supports, and guides efforts by staff, members, and governance. The Office of DEIR is committed to empowering everyone, irrespective of lived experience and intersectionality of identities, to fully participate in the chemistry enterprise. Role Details

As an intern in the Office of DEIR, you will gain insight into how our office turns the ACS core value of Inclusion and Belonging into operations. This includes activities around communications and marketing, event planning, and internal processes. We are seeking someone who is eager to contribute and learn new things simultaneously. It's important to be curious and a creative problem solver. In this role, you will work with multiple team members in the Office of DEIR, as well as with additional ACS Staff across ACS divisions and business units on the following projects:

Support logistics for an Office of DEIR-hosted ACS Webinar. Create a process to manage incoming requests for sensitivity reviews by the Office of DEIR. Help prepare materials and manage deadlines for the annual partner organization conferences. Other duties as assigned.

Nice-to-have Skills:

Familiarity with Asana or a similar task management tool is a plus, but not required.

Education Requirements:

This role does not require chemistry or science expertise, and is thus open all majors, rising/incoming college juniors and above.

Pay Transparency: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The following are the intended hourly rates for this part time/nonexempt role: Rising Junior-$23.00; Rising Senior-$24.00; Current Grad/PhD Student- $27.00.

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of ACS. ACS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.

Work Location and Scheduling Details:

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, two days per week. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
