Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Dental Assistant position located in the Dental Unit of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County and functions under the supervision of the Operations & Mgmt. Consultant I. This work provides dental assisting with expanded functions, and educational dental health programs.

 

Greet Patients with courtesy and respect and Verify patient’s identification. Obtain proper documentation in chart. Assist with 4-handed Dentistry in restorative and surgical treatment. Perform expanded functions. Provide Oral hygiene instructions and nutritional counseling. Record vital signs when necessary. Obtained Radiology certification. Expose digital or manual radiographs and process. Maintain and completes dental patient’s hybrid or electronic record in Eagle soft, HMS, and paper chart with accurate charting and writing dental treatment plan as diagnosed by the dentist. Review patient’s health histories. Maintain stock and organize operatory daily. Perform daily, weekly, monthly maintenance in dental clinic.

 

The employee will perform the duties of billing, collecting fees, scheduling appointments, and registering clients by means of the HMS/Dental Module system. Greets and receives the clients, interviewing to determine eligibility status, answering the phones, directing clients to the proper clinic, making charts, filing charts & maintaining a filing and recall system. Maintains and organizes the calendar for the office by retrieving the client’s appointment schedule on a daily basis. Assist in the completion of telephone and mail correspondence. Produces and submits required reports, to include the cash daily report and the end of the day report for Clinical Operations.

 

Perform all tasks in established dental protocols in dental operatory and sterilization area. Set up and break down rooms and provide optimal infection control. Set up cassettes/trays and sterilize all dental instruments according to department policy and procedures in operatory and sterilization area.

 

Completion of 100% and Employee Review of EARS in HMS every Thursday. People First timesheet submitted 100% of the time on assigned Thursday by close of business day. Be on time and ready to work daily according to work schedule.

 

Travel as needed to all dental clinics to provide coverage for clinic visits. Request leave in accordance to leave request policy.

 

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of dental procedures and techniques needed to diagnose and treat diseases of the oral cavity, treatment alternatives, drug interactions, preventive health measures and sterilization/disinfection procedures. Reading comprehension and understanding of work-related documents. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and convey information effectively. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech. Listening to what others are saying and asking questions as appropriate. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and adjust actions in relation to other actions. Time management skills. Knowledge of basic medical/dental terminology and techniques

 

Qualifications:

Dental Expanded Functions Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Background Screening TB Testing

 

Emergency Duty Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
