Position Objective

Alice Peck Day Upper Valley Smiles Program started in 2003, is a school-based dental program which typically runs from September through June. This innovative program continues to meet a large unmet need in the Upper Valley for oral health care and is an example of excellent collaboration between hospital and schools. 

 

The Dental Assistant works with the APD Dental Hygienist in providing the school-based dental program services

 

Performance Expectation

Set up equipment and supplies in schools; break down equipment and pack supplies for safe transport. Properly maintain dental equipment and advise dental hygienist when additional maintenance or repairs are needed. Advise the dental hygienist when additional supplies are needed. During screenings and treatments performed by dentists and/or hygienists, make sure all necessary instruments andsupplies are available as requested. During treatment, assist hygienist as needed so he/she can provide treatments as safely and efficiently as possible.

Responsibilities include:

Managing sterilization, mixing of glass iometers, delivery of instruments and supplies to hygienist, recording information on treatment records as dictated by hygienist, and all other tasks needed to support the delivery of oral health services to students. Clean treatment chair, light and operator stool between patients. As needed, escort students to and from their classrooms for treatment or screenings. Record screening results electronically (using and ipad). Adhere to program protocols (infection control, clinical procedures, sterilization and Safety Data Sheets). Any other duties deemed appropriate by the dental hygienist or by the Director of Community Health
