Today, AIDS Outreach Center (AOC) began as a grassroots organization responding to the HIV epidemic. Since that time, AOC has been a leader in North Texas in the fight against HIV. Annually, 42 staff members provide services and education to over 2,000 people living with HIV and prevention services to over 3,500 people in our community.

Our Mission is to serve people living with or at risk for HIV with dignity and respect.In our community, people living will with HIV receive quality care, and new infections are rare.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Geisel Morris Dental Clinic provides preventative oral health services that include the following: oral cancer screenings, periodontal (gum) health management, prophylaxis (cleaning), periodontal scaling and root planning to control gum disease, provided by licensed Registered Dental Hygiene staff.  The clinic utilizes all digital x-rays including a state of the art digital Sirona Panoramic x-ray machine to assess the oral health of the patient.   The clinic dentists are able to provide restorative services that include fillings, crowns, simple extractions, and simple root canals.  Additionally, clinic dentists provide services for removable prosthetics such as partials and full dentures.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:

Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.Provides information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests.Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments.Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.Provides diagnostic information by exposing radiographic studies using a digital sensor and Dexis; assists dentist by pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.Maintains patient appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable appliances.Assists in processing of dental referrals, and lab requests; selects charts for daily treatment; posts treatment to charts pre and post patient care, confirms patient appointments.Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, accessing the emergency drug and oxygen supply, and following emergency protocol.Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.Documents dental care services by charting in patient records utilizing Dentrix.Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; maintaining equipment inventories; reports all equipment problems to the office manager.Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; giving a list of needed supplies to the office manager; verifying receipt of supplies.Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.Contributes to team effort by assisting in any other tasks as requested.

 

                                                                                                       

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Dental Assistant in the state of Texas; minimum one year experience preferred; radiology certification; Spanish speaking bilingual required; strong written and verbal communication skills; and experience with dental software.
