Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant provides support to dentists, dental hygienists, and other staff of Evergreen Dental Practice, performing a variety of patient care, office, x-ray and laboratory duties, often working chair-side as dentists examine and treat patients. They make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records. They collaborate with and support team members to ensure a patient-focused approach to care. The Dental Assistant reports to the Practice Manager, who in tandem with the Dentist, shall determine the specific responsibilities of this position. These responsibilities may be revised, as necessary, with proper notification and training provided, where appropriate. As part of the essential functions of this role, the Dental Assistant: + Provides support to dentists, hygienists, and staff as needed + Supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments and materials following prescribed procedures and protocols + Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient. Provides information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests + Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment areas; Positioning instruments for dentist’s access; Suctioning and passing instruments + Prepares impression materials and cements by mixing and delivering to dentist for placement; Pouring, trimming, and polishing impression models for diagnostic purposes + Coordinates and tracks the pick-up and delivery of dental labs and prostheses + Educates patients, giving oral hygiene, plaque control and postoperative instructions + Documents dental care services by charting in patient records. Assists dentist and dental hygienist with managing dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency oxygen supply and emergency telephone directory + Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential + Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations + Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols + Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of protocols + Takes appropriate x-rays for dentist analysis + Collaborates and supports the team members to ensure a patient-focused approach to care Qualified Candidate will be a licensed CDA (Certified Dental Assistant) in New York,and will have current BLS/CPR certification; will have 1 year experience as a Dental Assistant, with comprehensive understanding of dental technology, dental health maintenance, and infection control, as well as strong knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques; proficiency in dental practice management software (Dentrix) preferred.
