UTHealth Houston’s School of Dentistry is hiring for a Dental Assistant I/II to join in their Mobile Dental Clinic. The Dental Assistant will be responsible for assisting our student dental providers under the supervision of faculty during various procedures; ensuring efficient and seamless operations of the mobile clinic; preparing and organizing the mobile dental clinic equipment for on-site procedures; ensuring all instruments are sterilized and ready for use; assisting the pre-doctoral student provider chairside during examinations and treatments; anticipating the need for specific instruments and materials; addressing patient concerns, questions, and issues promptly; educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care, and more. In this role you would work with Dental Students, not experienced providers. Being bilingual (English/Spanish speaking) is a plus!
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible opportunity 40 hrs./wk. to include driving a UTHealth Vehicle (SUV/Passenger Van). You must possess a valid Texas driving license and a clean record. CDL is a plus.
This position is funded by grants that comprise 50% or more of the funding. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of funding for this position. Your employment may end upon the cancellation or discontinuation of the project, program, or funding.
Location: Mobile Dental Clinic – regular intrastate travel with overnight stay is required. We cover lodging and meals when not provided by our community partners.

Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and students in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Assists in the teaching of dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students in the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU). Provides chair side assistance to students and faculty. Maintains sterile, and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area. Maintains infection control standards. Maintains records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments. Must be able to respond to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Dental Assistant Registration by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
Basic office or computer skills.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred.
Minimum Experience:
None.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
