Job Description:
STUDENT SUPPORT: Maintain optimal working order of clinic equipment. Interact effectively with Dental Maintenance to insure clinic is ready for use by student dentists daily. Execute techniques associated with use of dental technologies or devices that incorporates digital or computer-controlled components to carry out dental procedures rather than using mechanical or electrical tools. Manage infection control survey daily to ensure compliance with clinic cleanliness standards and correct deficiencies as they occur (e.g., clean chairs, counters, sinks, etc.). Provide reinforcement for infection control standards through leading by example, giving direction (as needed) to the students for proper adherence to infection control standards, and utilizing the infection control variance forms (as needed) when student dentists requires correction in infection control practices. Lead in the organization of chairside assistance for student dentist utilizing (1st) team pre-doctoral student dentists (when available) and (2nd) Santa Fe College Dental Programs students (when available). Manage laboratory cases for the clinic. Maintain daily attendance records of team students and perform as information resource at the emergency rally point regarding students and assisting students. Lead hands-on volunteer orientation/training (three times per semester for 2 hours a session). Assist preclinical courses directly training students for intra-oral photography, and fourhanded dentistry. Assist with student orientation into the clinical curriculum; assess skills for infection prevention and general clinic safety.
PATIENT CARE: Provide clinical general dentistry chairside assisting to student dentists. Maintain optimal clinic infection control standards (Expanded Functions Duties Auxiliary (EFDA) and radiology included). Under a licensed dentist’s indirect supervision, place/expose dental radiographs, take/record vital signs, and help guide/teach pre-doctoral dental students as they develop these skills.
CLINIC INVENTORY: Manage inventory of clinical supplies for the assigned clinical care group (22-chair clinic). Maintain adequate stock of daily, weekly, and monthly clinic supplies.
STUDENT/PATIENT CLINIC SCHEDULING: Assist treatment coordinators and team leaders with morning huddles. Assist teams with managing the daily clinic schedule to help ensure every clinic chair is filled with patients throughout the clinic session, providing patients with timely and appropriate care, and the students with clinical experiences.
STERILIZATION: Provide support to Central Sterilization when needed.
GENERAL: Proctor clinical examinations (mock board examinations) two times per year. Participate in quality assurance process of UFCD. Perform rotating reception and mail duties. Perform chart locker audits and other related duties. Actively participate in, and provide feedback during, staff meetings.

Expected Salary:
Dental Assistant I: $16.00-$17.00 per hour
Dental Assistant II: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:
Dental Assistant I:
High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Dental Assistant II:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code.
Preferred Qualifications:
TRAINING:
• Dental radiology certificate/permit
• Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) [Dental Assisting National Board CDA]
• Completion of formal training with a dental assisting program through a community college or vocational technology center
EXPERIENCE:
• Handling general office equipment to include, facsimile machine, computer, copier, calculator
• Microsoft Windows
• Microsoft Office (Word, Access, and Excel)
• Two years of multi-practitioner dental practice experience
SKILLS:
• General dentistry chairside assisting skills
• Information technology skills operating a computer
• Excellent customer service skills
