School of Dental Medicine Orthodontics Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery laboratory is seeking a dental assistant.

Performs chairside dental assisting and radiography in a dental clinic with patients who have received sedation and outpatient general anesthesia. Assists with oral surgery procedures; maintains oral surgery instruments, trays, and sterilization practices; sets up dental operatories. Instructs on and ensures students use proper infection controls and protocols. Schedules cases and procedures, maintains department records and charts, handles post-op emergencies, assists with student clinical evaluations and attendance records, and monitors and distributes narcotic and non-narcotic prescriptions. Maintains clinic and sterilization room; orders supplies.

Must be able to provide chairside assistance to faculty members, residents, and students in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/ University Dental Health Services (UDHS). While providing chairside support for surgical procedures and patient sedation, the assistant will be responsible for maintaining an aseptic environment, following OSHA and infection control guidelines, and following HIPPA guidelines as well as maintain and dispense inventory and instruments.

Must be able to assess usage volume and of supplies in relation to inventory levels and let the lead dental assistant know of levels. Must restock operatories daily. Preparation of operatory and dental rooms for treatment is required throughout the day and at the end of the day for following morning procedures.

Escorting patients from waiting area to operatory and ensure patient chart is available for treatment is required.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skill in the support of surgical procedures for sedated patients. Must be organized, responsive to the needs of faculty and residents, and highly attentive to patient needs.
