POSITION STANDARDS Registered dental hygienist in NH and VT. Associates degree Ability to provide classroom on site education on oral health, apply fluoride varnish, decay stopping medication SDF and sealant applications Comfortable with data Superior clinical and interpersonal communication skills (ability to interact positively with school, hospital, WIC clinic and other staff). Demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to manage children in clinical setting. Effective teaching and classroom management skills. Excellent writing skills. Copy of current liability insurance policy. Current BLS certification Valid NH driver's license POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Anything listed here requires a pre-employment physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. Position Objective

Alice Peck Day Upper Valley Smiles Program started in 2003, is a school based dental program which typically runs from September through June. The Dental Hygienist role visits elementary schools in the Upper Valley annually, providing classroom education, dental screenings, fluoride varnish, decay-stopping medication, and sealant applications, all at no cost to parents/guardians. This innovative program continues to meet a large unmet need in the Upper Valley for oral health care and is an example of excellent collaboration between hospital and schools.

Create and deliver oral health education and preventive services (including sealants, fluoride varnish and temporary restorations, as indicated) in a variety of public health settings including schools, WIC clinics and APD-sponsored clinics.

 

Performance Expectation Under public health supervision of the APD Upper Valley Smiles supervising dentist(s) perform preventive services at schools, weekend APD clinics (only as needed), WIC clinics and other public settings. Services to include: oral hygiene instruction, cleaning teeth, applying fluoride varnish, sealants and temporary fillings. For each patient treated, review treatment record and add documentation of all services provided, conditions observed, pathology noted, and document any behavior of students that are out of the ordinary. Maintain complete treatment records. After program completion, provide all treatment records to APD Community Health Director for storage , supervising dentist's review and signature, and reporting. Provide classroom oral health education in school and establish teaching schedule with school staff. Set up equipment and supplies in schools and at WIC clinics in coordination with other staff. Prepare end-of-year and other administrative reports required by NH Dental Board, Community Health Dept Manager and/or funders. Maintain the confidentiality of information pertaining to all patients treated, in accordance with HIPAA and FRPA guidelines. Provide on-site supervision of dental assistant in school-based clinics.
