Position Summary: Reports administratively to the health services administrator with clinical oversight from MTC Medical’s Corporate Clinical Director. Directly supervises the dental assistant. Responsible for providing preventive and corrective dental care to non-citizens in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.
Essential Functions:
Provide direct dental diagnostic and treatment services to non-citizens, using current knowledge of methods, practices, procedures and techniques of providing quality diagnosis and treatment, including preventative periodontics, restorative, endodontic, minor oral surgical and exodontia and prosthodontic services. Provide guidance and technical supervision to dental hygienists and dental assistants performing direct and indirect patient care services, coordinate clinic operations with the health services administrator. Maintain an effective clinical patient scheduling and record-keeping system; provide referrals; maintain records on clinic operations and prepare required reports, as needed. Coordinate and participate in patient education programs and services; provide consultation, guidance, and in-service education to other health services staff. Refer patient to oral health specialists for consultations, evaluations and treatments. Adhere to established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position. Maintain security and confidentiality of all patients' medical records. Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations. Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those covering controlled substances. Assist corporate counsel with responses to non-citizen lawsuits. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings; promote communication and the proper flow of relevant information. Provide physical safety requirement recommendations that are necessary to promote a safe working environment to the health services administrator. Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate medical services. Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas. Maintain equipment and supplies. Provide orientation for new dental staff concerning the facility dental program. May act as the radiation safety officer as designated by the health services administrator. Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and non-citizens through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Maintain accountability of non-citizens and property; adhere to safety practices.It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires DDS degree or DMD degree and valid license to practice dentistry with DEA controlled substance registration certificate in the state of California and current CPR certification. Two (2) years of general clinical practice strongly preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid driver’s license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements:
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
