Summary VAMC Salisbury is seeking a full time non-clinical, general practice Dentist who will manage referrals for care outside the Department of Veterans Affairs system. Incumbent should have experience performing a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. Responsibilities The General Dentistry staff dentist shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. General dentistry with experience in crown and bridge work, simple extractions, and full and partial dentures. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: Generate referrals to community care providers for new patient exams. Review incoming community care consults for clinical appropriateness and review identified treatment plan and route to the corresponding subspecialty. Review requests for additional services from community vendors to ensure appropriateness. Update treatment plans upon completion of work in the community. Correspond with community dentists to ensure care is delivered appropriately. Completes focused review of community provider treatment and claims Additionally, the provider should be able to: Provide direct patient care in both an inpatient and outpatient setting to veterans with varying degrees of acute and chronic medical conditions and/or levels of compromised health. Serve as a consultant to other healthcare providers. Establish and maintain professional relationships within the Dental Service and with other services and facility management. This position requires mostly periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients/residents who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on stakeholder needs.
