Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Department Administrator for NJMS- Ophthalmology & Visual Science. Under the direction of the Department Chairperson, coordinates the development, organization, evaluation, and control of health services which support the clinical efforts of the Department. Supervises assigned staff members. Supervises the administration of the academic programs and clinical business activities of the department including the review and evaluation of policies, procedures, and organization, and develops recommendations for improvements and changes. Reporting directly to the Chair of Ophthalmology & Visual Science, as well as the Assistant Dean, Clinical Operations, this administrator may represent the Chairs in various institutional forums including New Jersey Medical School, University Hospital, BHMG and the University at large.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Identifies all Ophthalmology and Visual Science departmental administrative staffing needs. Recommends and counsels on the hiring, termination, promotion, demotion, pay change, transfer and discipline of employees. Identifies and plans for administrative and clerical staffing needs for the department. Ensures support staff coverage by analyzing divisional needs, reviewing requests for assistance and processing appropriate requests. Interviews, supervises and disciplines staff. Orients new support staff members. Develops and implements Ophthalmology and Visual Science departmental administrative policies and procedures subject to the approval of the Department Chair. Coordinates department-wide initiatives designed to increase efficiencies administratively and clinically.
