Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job This is a full-time, tenured faculty position. The chair will lead and coordinate strategic planning and curriculum development for the Department of Counselor Education. Manage the budget and operations. Evaluate faculty and staff performance; coordinate accreditation and program approval initiatives. Teach two courses during the academic year. Provide service to the university, community, and profession; actively participate in student recruitment, support faculty growth and development opportunities. Promote interdepartmental collaboration and communication. In addition, the chair will participate as a member of the Executive Council for the College of Education as well as a member of the University’s Council of Chairs. Educational Requirements for the Position Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited doctoral program. Experience Required for the Position The candidate must have experience in university teaching and serving in leadership roles in higher education, such as department chair, program coordination, or other similar experiences. The candidate must have a strong record of scholarly productivity; demonstrate a record of service; and must qualify for appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The candidate must have a working knowledge of CACREP accreditation. Other Requirements for the Position The candidate must be a licensed professional counselor. If candidate is licensed in another state and offered the position, candidate must seek licensure in Texas within the first year. Special Instructions Summary The Department of Counselor Education offers two master’s degrees, an M.A. in Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) and an M.Ed. in School Counseling. The Department also offers a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and an undergraduate minor in Human Services. The Department also houses the Jack Staggs Counseling Clinic, with fully functional clinics on the SHSU main campus and at The Woodlands Center location. The Department of Counselor Education offers courses on the main campus, at The Woodlands Center, as well as online.
