Department Manager, Community and Economic Development

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International’s Harrisburg, PA office is seeking a Community and Economic Development Department Manager to support the firm’s dynamic and ever-growing planning practice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering a diverse portfolio of technically challenging community planning and economic development projects for our public and private clients located in Pennsylvania and beyond.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with Michael Baker’s national network of planning and engineering experts located in various offices throughout the United States to help promote and deliver the firm’s planning services.

The Community and Economic Development Department Manager position reports to the Harrisburg Office’s Director of Planning and will perform the following typical functions:

Responsible for leading the Harrisburg Office’s community and economic development services that includes a diverse array of state, regional, county, and municipal planning projects including comprehensive planning, land use and zoning, housing, multimodal, economic development, public funding, parks and recreation, etc. Performs advanced professional work related to variety of complex planning assignments on a local, county, regional, and statewide basis Conducts meetings with public officials, citizens, and project stakeholders Assists with the Planning Department’s marketing and business development efforts to include proposal development and interview presentations Supervises staff and provides professional development mentorship

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will require the following knowledge and capability characteristics:

Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or Economics; Master’s Degree preferred Minimum 10 years of relevant experience American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred Well-developed knowledge of and demonstrated technical proficiency in municipal planning, community and economic development, and multimodal transportation planning Working knowledge of Pennsylvania municipal codes Project Management, staff supervision, and development skills and experience Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting reports and projects Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection Experience with computer programs and applications, which include Microsoft Office Suite, economic impact modeling, and database management Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams Ability to accommodate moderate travel including valid driver’s license 

COMPENSATION 

The approximate compensation range for this position $104,980 - $163,948 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
