Introduction to the job

Multi-Beam electron microscope Inspection (MBI) tools are part of ASML’s holistic lithography portfolio. These machines help our customers ensure quality in their fabs. ASML has an Electron Optical competence center in Delft, with multi-disciplinary teams, where we combine research with development & engineering (D&E) and deliver modules and the electron-optic microscope (SEM) designs for the Multi-Beam Inspection products.

The Delft department reports into the ASML HMI D&E organization in San Jose, California.

As Department Manager (DM), you and your team drive the development of MEMS based MBI SEMs in close collaboration with teams in San Jose and Veldhoven.

The scope of your team ranges from advanced research (looking 10 years ahead), assembly and qualification of Proto SEMs and supporting successful introduction of the developed products in ASMLs factory and field operations.

Together with your partners from Program, System Engineering and Marketing you will set the strategic direction for technology development, ensuring alignment with customer needs and competitive market trends.

As site manager, you will take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the site, including the cleanroom and its equipment. You will foster an inclusive work environment, supporting a variety of bottom-up organized social events.

You will proactively build relationships within the Delft high-tech ecosystem, including with the TU Delft, to advance ASML`s strategic goals.

Context of the position

Within ASML, the HMI D&E cluster is responsible for the specification, design and realization of E-beam inspection tools. You will report to the SEM sub-cluster manager who located in San Jose and reports to HMI’s head of D&E. You are expected to be in the Delft office on average 4 days a week. The 5th day will be in the Veldhoven office or at suppliers. You will be travelling  15% of your time intercontinental. In addition evening calls are expected.

Role and responsibilities

Your direct reports are 6 Group Leaders (GL), each leading 15-25 engineers, and 2 System Function Architects. The groups combined have all competences and personality types onboard and can independently deliver the Delft owned system function and functions.

Responsibilities include:

A leader of leaders, support your team in personal growth and technical challengesDefine the department roadmap  and translate this to strategic goals and growth plans for the departmentAs the primary DM, you own the key decisions for MEMS based SEMs and you look beyond the scope of the department for the best product solutionsMain point of contact to other sectors like System Engineering, Program, Sourcing, Factory with whom you align on strategic topics and escalations;Support the development of new technologies and processes and ensure for a smooth transition of the output of the Research team into Product development and subsequently to series production, and usage and servicing in the field

Education and experienceMaster’s degree or PhD in Physics or relevant Engineering study10+ years of experience in the international high-tech industryExperience in high tech product development, integration of electronics, firmware and software with hardware componentsExperience with people leadership, and leading international teamsExperience in Electron Optics and the semi-conductor industry is preferredGood links with Dutch Universities and Suppliers to the High Tech Industries is a preDemonstrated ability to perform in high-pressure environmentsProven track record in building and maintaining professional relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, both internal as well as external, fostering an inclusive work environment.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
