SummaryThe Department Manager is a key role responsible for managing the technical, operational, and financial aspects of the Building Inspection Department. Supervising the department’s personnel, business development efforts and performing building inspection and plans examiner duties, as required by business needs. Physical Demands & Work Environment:• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. This role will be based on the selected job posting location.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Keeps records of personnel transactions such as timesheets, benefits, new hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations; forwards necessary documentation to the Human Resources Department and/or Payroll for recordkeeping purposesInterviews and selects employees to fill vacant positionsReview clerical and personnel records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timelinessResponds and/or investigates employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programsPerform Structural Building Inspection duties (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing as licensed). Inspect commercial and residential buildings under construction or are being repaired, remodeled, enlarged, and are performed during various stages of completion to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes/ordinances.   Manages 1-20 building inspectors, plan reviewers, quality control inspectors, and office administrative staff.Determines whether changes may be required in plans and makes recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, etc.Performs inspections of foundations, concrete slabs, framing, roofing, and related construction work when necessaryMaintains accurate, complete, and current inspection recordsExercises tact and courtesy when conducting inspections, and communicating with clientsPrepare reports and report data in a complete, timely and understandable fashion and return them as required to the branch officeComplete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policyEnsure that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements, and company policies or proceduresTravel to various job sites at locations both locally and throughout the State of FloridaRegular attendance is requiredFollows safety proceduresOther duties may be assignedRequired Qualifications:Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)High school diploma or general education degree (GED)State of Florida Standard Building Inspector License (BN) Or Building Code Administrator License (BU)State of Florida Standard 1 + 2 Family Inspector LicenseAbility to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clientsComputer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reportsMathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsReasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram formPreferred experience managing personnel in an A/E/C firmPreferred Qualifications:Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing LicenseState of Florida Plan Review Certification (PX)State of Florida P.E. or Architect License and 3-5 years of related construction experienceCertified Building Official License (CBO)
