Job Title: Department Manager

FLSA: Exempt

General Function

Assists in managing overall daily warehouse operations and directs labor. Responsible for maintaining equipment and the cleanliness of the facility.

Positions that Report to you: All warehouse personnel

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Supervise and direct the work of all employees. Determines labor needs, maintain use of overtime.Promotes, supports, and directs all work to be done in a safe manner.Maintain in-house quality control of products and equipment.Communicates with supervisors and employees. Answering questions and responding to employee needs.Schedules attends, and participates in meetings.Maintain employee records and document employee interactions.Report to work when scheduled and works the expected number of hours.

Secondary Responsibilities (These are considered occasional in nature)

Completes training of employees.Completes employee performance reviews.Assists with interviewing applicants.Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work of others, coordinating activities, and allocating personnel.Selects new employees and acts on employee problems.Has authority to recommend employee discipline, transfer promotions, and discharges

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

Must be able to do logical thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.Must be able to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.Possess the ability to write form letters or routine correspondence; interpret written work instructions; interview job applicants; and counsel or advise people.

Education and Experience

High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Basic computer knowledge preferred. One year up to three years of similar or related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.Visual requirements include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less up to 20 feet or more with or without correction; depth perception and field of vision.Must pass post offer pre-employment fitness test, hearing, and drug screen.

Working Conditions

The duties for this position are normally conducted in a combination of an office and warehouse environment. There is constant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day. There is a possible exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, and dangerous chemicals/solvents.

Equipment/Programs used to Perform Job

PC with WMS and Hy-Vee software, telephone, fax, copier, 10 key calculator, and warehouse handling equipment.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including employee records, wages, equipment and sales figures.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with store personnel and supplier/vendors.
