Element has an opportunity for a Department Manager to join our growing Product Safety team. In this role you will be a member of the operational leadership team reporting to the Operations Manager or General Manager and perform a variety of leadership responsibilities within the department to insure timely and accurate test results are delivered. All Operational Leadership positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities Provide overall management for the Element technical employeesSupport the development of Quotes and test plans for customer specific test needsProvide timely review of test reports in support of Element KPIsEnsure a safe environment for employees and client activitiesWork directly with Inside Sales and Customer Service teams to help develop a weekly schedule that maximizes the output of the labHelp manage the schedule and work throughput per client expectations and monitor KPI’s accordinglyManage the local training of technicians & engineersAnswer technical questions from staff and clients via emails, teleconferences, or on-site meetingsReview test plans with staff to ensure testing is performed in accordance with the test plansEnsure test facility is calibrated to the standards required and that all test equipment and staff and are fit for purposeBecome fully conversant with test software to enable updating of calibration information, updating procedures etc.Thorough understanding of Product Safety testing and ability to help perform testing in exceptional circumstancesProvide leadership for continuous improvement activities at the labWork with Quality team to implement and maintain necessary accreditations as neededSupport the creation and implementation of processes that will help deliver better, faster, or more accurate services to the client Skills / Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four year college or university and 2 years’ experience in a leadership role / or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role with a diploma or GED certificate preferredWorking knowledge of laboratory safety with extensive knowledge of the current suite of testing capabilitiesWorking knowledge of core standards including IEC 60601-1, IEC 61010-1, & IEC 62368-1Ability to read and interpret test specifications, drawings, test plans and/or blueprintsAbility to develop quotes per required standards for Product Safety testingStrong computer skills with basic mathematical skills with the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plusAbility to lift <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion and stand on feet for long periods of timeTechnical leadership is vital to the production and operation of assigned tests with advanced working knowledge to operate various testing equipmentAbility to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of resultsProven ability to work under strict timelinesOrganizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concernsFamiliarity with continuous improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, etc. preferred#LI-TF1
