Associate or Full Professor of Animation
The UCLA Department of Film, Television and Digital Media seeks to hire a tenured Associate or Full Professor of Animation. The candidate should have a distinguished academic and/or professional record and be prepared to bring fresh perspectives to the art and future of animation in the feature film and television industries as well as experimental or short-format independent work. The UCLA Animation Workshop boasts industry-experienced, award-winning roster faculty, lecturers and alumni who work with students in an “up close and personal” setting with a small number of accepted MFA students in each class, and promotes the philosophy of “one person, one film”. This philosophy allows each filmmaker complete control over their film: its concept, purpose, content, viewpoint, art, form, audience, and value. Additionally, the UCLA Animation program is consistently ranked #1 in the Animation Career Review Top 40 Public Animation Schools and Colleges.
We are looking for a candidate with expertise in all areas of animation including the fundamentals of 2D and 3D animation (e.g. storyboarding, layout, acting, timing, character design), narrative storytelling, and the history and critical theory of animation. The candidate should be able to teach within our required courses a variety of beginning and advanced studio classes with the ability to creatively integrate traditional techniques with emerging technologies and platforms. We seek a dynamic artist/teacher who is committed to training the next generation of animation professionals.
REQUIREMENTS
A terminal degree in film, animation, digital arts or a related field, plus a combination of ten (10) years of professional industry experience and/or evidence of individual artistic achievement, and five (5) years of teaching experience is required. Special consideration will be given to applicants who emphasize social responsibility and diversity in their creative work.
RANK/SALARY
We are seeking applicants who qualify for an appointment to a Senate Faculty position in the University of California. A reasonable estimated salary range for the position is $133,000 - $281,400, inclusive of the salary scale and off-scale salary components.
