GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for greeting patients-checking patients in and out as they enter/leave the department.
Answering telephones, scheduling patient appointments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Answers telephones to schedule patients in ACIS accurately; transfers calls to appropriate area and taking messages
· Checks patients in as they arrive in unit.
· Prepares chart accurately and lets physician/nursing staff know patient has arrived.
· Checks patients out and schedules next appointment as needed.
· Maintains wound/infusion schedule to not overload or back up patient/staff wait times.
· Communicates with file room personnel when needing patient charts.
· Communicates directly with infusion biller/coder regarding prior authorizations and/or medical necessity.
· Sorts and distributes/files faxes to appropriate area.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· High School diploma or GED required.
· Medical terminology and/or basic computer experience.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67-100% of workday, Frequent = 34-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday)
FREQUENT:
· Reaching: To load paper in printer, sort mail, work with stacks of requests.
· Walking: To other parts of the building; i.e., print shop, medical records, mailroom and patient
waiting areas.
OCCASIONAL:
· Standing: At copy machine, or in department offices.
· Pushing: patient wheelchairs and carts.
· Grasping: Picks up and moves large stacks of paper.
CONSTANT:
· Fingering: Typing, writing messages.
· Talking: Makes and receives phone calls, relays messages.
· Hearing: Interacts with people in person and on the phone.
· Repetitive motions: Types, sorts papers, staples papers.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
· Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, or pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Constantly reads computer screens and printed or written documents.
· Loads paper into machines.
INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Adaptability to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts in terms of personal viewpoint when interacting with physicians or with patients.
· Adaptability to making generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
· Adaptability to dealing with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be able to be diplomatic when interacting with patients and/or physicians.
· Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
· Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:
· Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area.
