Ensures the scientific integrity across the ESRA partner set (14 members). Provides leadership and management to enable and ensure success of a broad research program areas consisting of multiple projects involving multi-disciplinary teams. Assists the Director with the development of the short and long-term strategic direction of ESRA. Interacts with Laboratory Management, DOE program sponsors and partner institutions to review and promote the quality and capability of the ESRA research and development activities. Ensures all divisional activities comply with all Federal, State and Laboratory policies and regulations and that work is carried out in a safe, secure and efficient manner. Responsible for the laboratory environment and oversight of ESRA hands-on research activities at Argonne. Acts as Director in the absence of the ESRA Director and Deputy Directors and has automatic delegation authority for the ESRA Directors in their absence.
Position Requirements
Comprehensive technical knowledge of, and recognition in, energy storage research.Comprehensive leadership and management skills in attracting, managing and sustaining a highly competent interdisciplinary staff.
Comprehensive skills and abilities in building and maintaining relationships at all levels, including DOE, Laboratory Management and partner Management, as well as the research team and support staff.
Considerable skill in oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate technical information to all levels.
Considerable skill in providing tactical and strategic planning.Experience in Project/Program Management and ability to lead in the coaching and mentoring of team members to help them achieve individual expectations and deliverables.
This level of knowledge/skill is typically attained by a Ph.D. in science or engineering supplemented by at least two years of relevant, demonstrated leadership skills.

Full timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $67,639.00 - $106,725.06.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
