Dewberry has an opportunity for an experienced landscape architect to serve as the DeputyDepartment Manager of our Planning Department within the Maryland business unit. We operate in four offices. The assistant department manager may be called upon to visit any of the four offices. This is an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to lead a team of professionals. The successful candidate will be assisting in the managing a team of landscape architects, planners and CAD techs in the design of site civil facilities, parks, and in support of other projects and departments within Dewberry. The selected individual will be responsible for providing resource management of the department of about 20 professionals, leading the effort to gain and maintain jurisdictional knowledge of permitting processes, preparation of design and contract documents (including reports, estimates and construction specifications), review of shop drawings, and providing technical support during the construction phase. Design oversight efforts will include projects being completed for a number of private sector, commercial, federal state and local clients. Additionally, this individual will be involved in staff recruiting and retention efforts, annual performance reviews, pursuit of new projects and staffing plan development, and assist in development of proposals and project budgets. The selected individual will significantly contribute to the business development of the department’s and office’s workload as well as client management of one or more clients.

Responsibilities Supervise a staff of designers, landscape architects and technicians, focusing on their development and utilization to drive business goals.Lead design teams in all aspects of a given project to develop detailed design documents for Concept, Schematic, Details, and Construction drawing plans.Plan, schedule, and coordinate the preparation of design documents and deliverables for a variety of landscape architecture projects as a Project Manager. Produce or lead in the production of deliverables including but not limited to:Conceptual and schematic design plans and graphics for presentationLayout studies, yield studies, and parking studies for various land development projectsDevelopment plans to support Rezoning and/or Special Exception applications.Code research, writing specifications, and coordinate/expediting agency permitting.Schematic and detailed grading design, utility design, environmental design, planting, lighting, and irrigation plans.Landscape and Hardscape Plans from concept development through construction documentsEnvironmental, tree conservation, and mitigation plans for agency approval. Coordinate and communicate with various team members including engineering, surveying, geotechnical, architecture, structural, environmental engineers, designers, and consultants.Participate in personnel actions.Engage in Business development, proposal writing and oversight; expected to manage one or more clients.Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning by an accredited 3rd party (LAAB), required.Registered Landscape Architect or relevant experience10+ years of experience in landscape architecture and/or planning, requiredStrong leadership skills including excellent communication and delegation skills.
