Deputy Director of Communications (Contracted/Temporary)

About the Role:

The Deputy Director of Communications of the Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) works closely with the Director of Communications to assist with the coordination of communications, social media, and press outreach across the secretariat, the planning and execution of public events involving EOED and the Governor’s Office, and the preparation of briefing documents for the Secretary or Governor’s Office as needed.

The Deputy Director coordinates their activities with the Director of Communications on all matters. The incumbent will have access to confidential material/information that must be safeguarded at all times,including when spearheading the development of press releases for agency programs and events and developing key messages for social media.

Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive)

Respond to and initiate EOED media inquiries, ensuring a consistent Administration message and coordinated response.Prepare drafts of remarks, speeches, talking points and press releases, as requested by the Undersecretary as well as the Secretary, Governor’s Office or Lieutenant Governor’s Office when directed by those offices.Coordinate all activities with the Secretary’s, Governor’s or Lt. Governor’s communications staff on matters related to EOED.Manage EOED events that include the Undersecretary, EOED Secretary, Governor, and/or Lt. Governor. Draft all event briefings in coordination with the Director of Communications.Participate in relevant policy or strategy meetings and draft documents as requested.
