**Position Overview**
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) Division is seeking a Deputy Electrical Safety Officer with relevant experience for executing an electrical safety program in an industrial, educational or research environment.
As the Deputy Electrical Safety Officer, the successful candidate will participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance the SLAC Electrical Safety program, supporting the Electrical Safety Officer, the Electrical Safety Committee, and other engineering / safety personnel throughout the lab.
SLAC builds and operates multiple revolutionary science and experimental facilities, several of which are unmatched in power, scale, and capability. This is a great opportunity to serve the Department of Energy National Laboratory community by consulting on a variety of complex pressure safety challenges. This position will report to the Electrical Safety Officer and will be a key member of the ESH team.
**Your specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):**
+ Serve as the Deputy Electrical Safety Officer
+ Assist organizations across the laboratory in implementation of safe work practices on conventional and experimental electrical systems and equipment from 50 V up to 230 kV.
+ Stewardship of the electrical equipment inspection program (EEIP) to test and qualify for use experimental equipment, which has not been listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). This includes program development, training, inspection, and quality assurance.
+ Provide inspection and quality assurance of the Control of Hazardous Energy Lockout Tagout program (CoHE LOTO) for hazardous energy sources throughout the laboratory (not limited to electrical hazard controls).
+ Deliver laboratory-wide training in support of the program across complex and diverse organizations.
+ Assist the Electrical Safety Officer in stewardship of the SLAC electrical safety program and ensuring the program complies with all applicable regulations.
+ Participate in the updating and maintenance SLAC electrical safety program resources including procedures, requirements, forms, databases, and tools.
+ Improve and help develop training and qualifying standards for affected staff.
+ Work with support personnel to develop lockout tagout protocols, design of safe electrical systems in both the conventional facilities and research environments.
+ Conduct field assessments of electrical work practices including field observations of lockouts, electrical installations, and work practices.
+ Participate in and/or lead electrical safety incident investigations.
+ Support assessment and assurance activities to understand the effectiveness of the electrical safety program and to prioritize continual improvement initiatives.
+ Develop guidelines for and participate in electrical demolition readiness reviews for systems and equipment to be removed, and energization readiness reviews for newly installed systems and equipment.
+ Conduct hazard evaluations and risk assessments using National Fire Protection Administration 70E, ¿Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace¿ guidance, OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements, and SLAC Work Planning and Control program requirements.
+ Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship with electrical workers and line management
**To be successful in this position you will bring:**
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field or at least seven years of experience in the design, procurement, operation, maintenance, and/or repair of electrical systems or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience..
+ A working knowledge of the requirements in codes and standards such as OSHA, Cal/OSHA, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, DOE Electrical Safety Handbook.
+ Experience in evaluating unlabeled electrical equipment in conjunction with nationally recognized standard(s), including inspection and necessary modifications of non-listed equipment (non-NRTL) as required by NFPA 70E article 300, NFPA 790 and NFPA 791.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment.
+ Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the organization.
+ Proficient with common computer software used in the office environment.

The expected pay range for this position is $142,815 - $162,625 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs
