Deputy Manager, Test Engineering MCFR

TerraPower is seeking a MCFR Deputy Discipline Manager that is responsible for supporting personnel and technical oversight for MCFR Test Engineering. This position will report to the MCFR Test Engineering Manager. The MCFR Deputy Discipline Manager will work to assure technical adequacy of work product from direct reports, develop and oversee engineering processes related to Test Engineering, provide personnel management to reports, and provide technical support and approvals for MCFR projects.   

Responsibilities:

•         Serve as a primary point of contact for MCFR Test Engineering

•         Inform discipline and engineering management of major emerging technical issues

•         Provide management guidance, mentorship, training, 1:1s and company performance reviews for individuals within MCFR Test Engineering as required

•         Approve technical documents when delegated by the MCFR Test Engineering Manager

•         Provide oversight of technical tasks within discipline areas or responsibility

•         Lead discipline group meetings, communication, and announcements when needed

•         Assign tasks to individuals within Test Engineering to support project objectives

•         Interface with project stakeholders to ensure tasks are prioritized appropriately, to support budget and schedule development, and to promote communication across the discipline

•         Assist in drafting policy and procedures for MCFR Test Engineering

•         Assist with the engineering staffing plan, hiring process, and onboarding within the discipline

•         Coach less experienced engineers and dedicate time and efforts toward growing talents

•         Ensure technical capabilities (training) and professional development of individuals within MCFR Test Engineering align with project needs as required

•         Recognize the need and recommend obtaining external subject matter experts

•         Interface with regulators, stakeholders, and customers on discipline design issues as delegated from manager

•         Approve weekly timecard submissions for individuals within MCFR Test Engineering as required

•         Uphold standard operating procedures and policies in the TerraPower laboratory

•         Coordinate with the TerraPower Everett Lab (EVL) Manager to align the work with other projects

•         Coordinate with the Lab Operations Team and the Safety Team to ensure proper communication of testing activities and compliance with safety policies

•         Ensure that work process execution and technical adequacy are in accordance with contract requirements, project standards and industry standards and executed per TerraPower procedures

Key Qualifications and Skills

•         B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or equivalent

•         Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; up to 2 years of experience may be substituted for an advanced degree

•         Demonstrated experience in managing personnel in a quality-driven testing environment preferred

•         Experience leading/supervising coordination of resources to support preparation of testing processes (i.e., hazard assessment, requirements development, procedure writing, etc.)

•         Must have experience in performing and/or overseeing testing held to applicable requirements such as NQA-1

•         Must have experience writing specifications for procurement, testing, and fabrication

•         Must possess a broad understanding of the various engineering disciplines and how they interrelate in the design and testing of plant systems

•         Experience with common collaboration software – Atlassian Confluence and Jira desired

•         The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork

Salary Range Level 11: $125,257 - $208,762

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands.  Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
