About the Role:
The Deputy Undersecretary of Economic Strategies is responsible for supporting the Undersecretary and all elements of the Economic Strategies portfolio, including the areas of program management, grant review, tourism, international trade, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, broadband, and tech/venture. The Deputy Undersecretary of Economic Strategies supports the Undersecretary to address overall Secretariat objectives in Economic Strategies. They also work with state and quasi-public agencies to support policy development and implementation of programs, projects, and initiatives under the Economic Development Plan, specifically addressing goals and objectives and ensuring performance goals are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:(these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Support the day-to-day operations and implementation of the Economic Strategies pillar. Responsible for program management, grant review, program reporting, budget management, and administrative functions – working closely with quasi partners and agency heads to ensure deliverables are met.Provide coordination to support the Undersecretary in the execution of all elements of the Economic Strategies policy, programs, agencies and staff. Set staff meetings, support scheduling, attend agency meetings, as needed. Ensure the Undersecretary has appropriate materials for all meetings, including briefs, decks, talking points, etc.Serve as a program support for policy areas under Economic Strategies including but not limited to: workforce development, federal funding initiatives like CHIPS Science, tourism, international trade, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, broadband, and tech/venture. Support the team in the implementation of policies related to the Economic Development plan and newly enacted Mass Leads Act.Support in the overall performance management of the Economic Strategies programs. Support the Office of Performance Management on all evaluations of programs and policies existing within the portfolio.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of economic development, program management, grant review, workforce development, business development and business regulation issues, procedures and practices.Ability to deal diplomatically with stakeholders, and outside groups on complex and often confidential constituent, policy, and program matters.Ability to collect, organize, integrate, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.Strong organizational and follow-through skills.Strong interpersonal skills including ability to build and maintain effective relationships.Experience with Massachusetts State Legislative and Government branches, functions, and key position holders.Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work independently and as a team player who works across functions and levels to both deliver results and long-term working relationships.All applicants should attach a cover letter and resume to their online submission for this position.

Applicants must have at least (A) seven (7) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least three (3) years must have been in a managerial capacity.
