Derivatives Portfolio Manager

The Derivatives and Hedging team manages a $100bn multi-asset derivatives portfolio (equity, rates, and credit) spanning from linear instruments (futures, total return swaps, interest rates swaps, CDS, etc.) to options (vanilla, digital, exotics), or variance swaps. It mitigates the complex market risks associated with the variable annuity products sold by the Company – GMxB (Guaranteed Minimum Benefits) or RILA (Registered Index-Linked Annuities) – and protects the Company’s economic and statutory balance sheets.

Reporting to the Head of Derivatives and Hedging, the Derivatives Portfolio Manager will assume a highly visible role in the derivatives and hedging team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Help manage the derivatives portfolio and execution of the trading programs Help report hedge PL and effectiveness of the hedging programs to senior managementConduct research and analysis on specific derivatives products, including pricing, risk factors and performance metric to manage derivatives strategy. Enhance operational processes to support trading, PL reporting, and attribution Strive to maximize effectiveness of the hedging programs through changing markets Work collaboratively with stakeholders from actuarial, finance, treasury, investments, risk management or legal to support ALM, liquidity, stress-testing, etc. Monitor and advise on evolutions of the derivatives markets and regulatory landscape

The base salary range for this position is $120,000-$170,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short-term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:

Masters Degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Mathematics, Physics, etc.) OR CFA1 years of capital market experience, in derivatives hedging, trading and/or risk managementDerivatives knowledge Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex topics for management Coding experience in Python or similar language

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in developing derivative hedging and/or income generating strategies Experience with variable annuities or insurance liabilities making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations


Skills

Derivatives: Knowledge of the structure, attributes, uses, terminology and processing of basic derivatives; ability to use knowledge of derivatives appropriately.

Economics: Knowledge of economic conditions, trends and markets and the potential impact on the economy; ability to apply economics into various business environments and scenarios.

Financial Risk Management: Knowledge of tools, techniques, and strategies applied in financial risk management; ability to quantify, qualify, and manage financial risk.

Quantitative Research: Knowledge of research concept, tools and methods; the ability to use numerical methods to compile information about a given situation or condition.
