Design and Development Engineer - Alberton

Widney Transport Components is a supplier of specialist commercial vehicle glass and sliding window solutions. The company supplies solutions to the bus and train industry and is the only local accredited sliding window supplier for Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, Nissan and Ford.

 

Main job purpose

To ensure that all products and or new business initiatives are designed, developed and implemented according to Widney’s standards and customer specifications in order to increase profitability, maintain quality and ensure overall sustainability of the business.

 

Main Objective

To manage projects relating to products, process or any new business initiative effectively to ensure efficient implementation thereof to support the business in achieving its objectives and ensuring overall customer satisfaction. To effectively conceptualise, design, fabricate, test and implement products for the business in order to improve efficiencies and/or satisfy customer requirements, in line with the project plans, specifications and agreed budgets. Ensure that all relevant documentation relating to products are created, up-to-date, stored and implemented. To identify and implement product and process improvements on an ongoing basis to reduce costs and improve efficiencies on an ongoing basis. To continuously liaise and build effective relationships with relevant stakeholders in and outside the organisation to ensure efficient management of projects thereby managing project deadlines and budget requirements. To accurately compile and manage project budgets in order to control costs and expenditures thereby ensuring overall profitability and showing a good ROI on initiatives executed. Ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support effective decision making for the business.

 

Critical job requirements

Grade 12      National Diploma or B Tech in Mechanical Engineering At least 3 years in a design environment At least 3 years engineering experience  2 years experience in a manufacturing environment   

 

Knowledge 

Working knowledge of product and process design      Working knowledge in analytical problem solving techniques
