Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) in support of ISS and Artemis programs. In this position, the employee will be located in our Leidos facility in Webster, Texas. Some domestic and international travel may be required. This role also has the opportunity to support Leidos Commercial work for space flight hardware. The CMC team works with commercial software such as IBM Maximo, Creo, Microsoft (MS) Project, and MS SharePoint, in addition to CMC custom software. Support of tests and other activities may be required outside of normal working hours.
Per the contract, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work independently and in a team environment to analyze requirements from the NASA customer and develop design solutionsDesign, develop, test, handle implementation and analysis of technical products and systemsPerform engineering design evaluations and present findings to leadership and customersPerform trade studies and create out-brief presentations for leadership and customersProduce engineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500 and other applicable NASA standardsPerform dimensional fit tolerance analysis and functional analysis which including form, fit and functionProduce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5Release and store drawings and CAD models in the NASA JEDII repositoryPrepare and present designs at various design reviewsCoordinate and oversee manufacturing work with vendorsProduce other required design documentation as requiredEvaluate designs for cost and manufacturabilityOptimizing designs to minimize cost and schedule impactsCommunicate with internal and client project team members. Work to influence team members regarding solution design, process and/or approachesSupport hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflightCreate and maintain project resource-loaded schedules in MS Project ProfessionalDevelop basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for new on-contract growthMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, and 2+ years of relevant experienceExperience designing simple to complex electro-mechanical designsExperience working with multi-discipline teams and customersExcellent oral and written communication skillsExperience with presenting technical and financial project status to large groups such as technical NASA boardsMust have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5Must have experience using PTC CREO CAD software and WINDCHILLMust have strong knowledge of machine shop processesPreferred Qualifications:
