Job Title: Design Engineer – Renewables Location: Canal Fulton, OH Job Type: Full-time Reports to: Engineering Coordinator Job Summary We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our Lindsay Renewables Division. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design and development of large structural steel assemblies and utility-scale electrical equipment for renewable energy projects. This role will report directly to the Engineering Coordinator and will involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet project requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations. This is a unique opportunity to work in the rapidly expanding renewables sector, with a focus on utility-scale projects such as solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and eMobility. Key Responsibilities + Design Development: + Create full 3-dimensional SolidWorks models and assemblies. + Develop renderings and presentation drawings for sales. + Create technical drawings for structural steel and utility-scale electrical equipment. + Create full BOMs of projects including hardware, conduit, wiring and terminations. + Ensure designs comply with applicable codes (e.g., NEC) and standards. + Support the development of innovative design solutions tailored to project-specific needs. + Collaboration and Coordination: + Work closely with the Engineering Coordinator, project managers, fabrication manager and other team members to ensure seamless integration of designs into overall project plans. + Collaborate with external electrical, structural and civil engineer firms to produce complete project drawing sets. + Work with vendors to incorporate purchased and customer supplied equipment into designs. + Work with sales and development team to create cost-effective designs based on customer requirements. + Quality Assurance and Documentation: + Conduct design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to quality standards. + Support project managers and quality with the identification of critical design criteria requiring inspection. + Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including specifications, calculations, and technical reports. + Support and Troubleshooting: + Provide engineering support during project execution, including addressing on-site production issues related to design. + Assist in developing and implementing quality review processes to enhance design accuracy and consistency. + Continuous Improvement: + Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the renewable energy and construction industries. + Contribute to process improvements in design methodologies and tools. Qualifications Qualifications Required: + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. + 2–5 years of experience in design engineering, preferably in the large equipment manufacturing or renewable energy sectors. + Proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD software. + Strong understanding of structural steel design principles and utility-scale electrical equipment. + Experience designing weldments. + Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including NEC. + Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Effective contributor and participant in a team based work environment. + Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines. Preferred: + Experience with renewable energy projects such as solar or energy storage systems. + Familiarity with ISO9001:2015 processes. + Exposure to fabrication and installation practices for structural steel and electrical systems.
