The **Design Engineer Supervisor** will support and contribute to the company goals of 10-20-4 and zero injuries. Under general direction, supervises the design, documentation and implementation into production of approved, new products, or enhancements to existing products. Supervises development team/teams of multi projects, supervising engineers and designers. May lead testing groups on multi projects, supervising Design Engineers and Engineer Technicians. Selects components and materials, responsible for complete detail drawings and accurate Bill of Materials, and all pertinent documentation as needed. Applies fundamental principles and concepts of position; performs more routine aspects and progresses to more varied, complex designs. Ensures products meet design, performance, test and cost parameters of specified projects. Evaluates design integrity and component selection based on function, structural strength, and testing. Creates development programs and schedules for each project and ensures successful on-time completion.
**Essential Functions of the Job:**
+ Designs approved new products or enhancements to existing products using SolidWorks software program. Prioritizes projects and plans development cycle/design schedule. Ensures projects meet or exceed design, performance, test and cost parameters.
+ Maintains complete documentation of designs including 3D Cad models, detail drawings, purchased items with generic specifications, complete and accurate Bill of Materials, shipping configuration, and long lead item lists.
+ Supervises by providing leadership, training, guidance, and motivation to the development team/teams of multi projects, supervising personnel either in design or testing.
+ Initiates or recommends personnel action(s) such as promotions, transfers, disciplinary measures and/or terminations through appropriate channels and/or by following proper procedures. Completes and administers personnel performance evaluations.
+ Maintains overall design responsibility for product designs as well as the design, styling, structural integrity and functional performance of Alamo Group products. Performs stress analysis and evaluates strength of material.
+ Research/specifies required materials for product production and sources vendors to supply specified materials and/or parts/components. Works with Purchasing Department on vendor approval.
+ Coordinates production of prototypes and component delivery. Checks fit-up accuracy of parts. Ensures implementations of product flows from design to actual production.
+ Develops test programs for new products, evaluating performance and structural integrity for approval or problem resolution. Interprets industry standards for the development and implementation of required tests.
+ Will release engineering change request (ECR) and engineering change notices (ECN) including all prints and respective BOM required for production upon approval of products.
+ Communicates project status on regular basis to include product performance characteristics, specification information, testing information and other pertinent data.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):**
+ Demonstrated experience/expertise in equipment/related products, hydraulic systems, component selection, and design of products using steel fabrication, welding, forming, machining and assembly. Knowledge of Bush Hog product(s) and/or mowing/agricultural implements preferred. Excellent mechanical aptitude needed and ability to analyze failures.
+ Proficient in 3-D wire frame construction, design layouts, assembly drawings and/or component part drawings. Proficient on CAD; SolidWorks preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and Able to write or speak technical instructions. Ability to work effectively with cross functional departments. Good record keeping skills.
+ Produce accurate documentation. Demonstrated experience/expertise in stress analysis, material selection, material sizing, and structural integrity evaluation.
+ Able to organize and prioritize own work schedule and staffs' Meet deadlines and work under pressure. Leads multiple projects.
**Education and Experience:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering
+ Minimum 5 years experience in product design and 2-3 years supervisory experience in pr, preferably in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
