Job Description:

Overview

The Design Leader manages all aspects of the design process, from research to conceptual and final design, and through construction. This position provides on-the-job training to enhance the core competence of team members. This position leads project teams towards successful adoption of new design ideas and possesses a strong mastery of design fundamentals.  This position is expected to be able to work on multiple projects concurrently and deliver on expectations within tight deadlines. In addition to leading a team of engineers and technical professionals, this position will also be actively involved in professional associations and community organizations as Pape-Dawson continues building partnerships within the community we serve.

Responsibilities

Review proposals, budgets and client agreementsLead, mentor, and oversee design and technical aspects of the team(s) projects including detailed engineering design and calculations, report writing, permitting (local and state) and presentations to clients, public agencies, and the general publicWrite responses to client RFQs and SolicitationsDevelop and maintain professional relationships with clients, public agency officials and community leadersCoordinate and monitor project tasks, budgets and schedulesParticipate in the development of company design and production standardsActively participate in professional associations and civic organizations within the communityRead and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.Develop or test models of alternate designs or processing methods to assess feasibility, sustainability, operating condition effects, potential new applications, or necessity of modification.Recommend the use of utility or energy services.Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations.Provide technical direction or supervision to junior engineers, engineering or computer-aided design (CAD) technicians, or other technical personnel.Responsible for the technical and professional development of project team(s)

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited college or universityProfessional Engineer (P.E.) designation in the State of Texas15 years’ of experienceProven ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written skillsProven ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, municipal utility districts, public agency officials and community leadersProven ability to lead a team of engineers and technical professionalsActively involved in professional associations and civic organizations
