Desktop Support Technician
Job Description A large oil and gas client in the Houston area is seeking a Desktop Support Technician to join their team on a 100% onsite basis. This person will be responsible for technical support, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues on desktops, laptops, and related equipment. They will provide support for Windows and/or macOS operating systems, including updates, configurations, and troubleshooting. Additionally, they will assist with the installation, setup, and maintenance of desktop applications, peripherals, and security tools. Providing exceptional customer service to end-users in a timely and effective manner is a key aspect of this role. This person will escalate complex issues to appropriate IT teams while maintaining communication with the end-user. In system administration, they will manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in Active Directory environments, and perform system updates, patches, and performance tuning. Collaboration is essential, as you work closely with other IT team members to support enterprise-wide projects, deployments, and technology upgrades, and participate in hardware and software rollouts, migrations, and implementations. This person will be required to maintain detailed records of user issues and resolutions in a ticketing system, and develop and update knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, and training materials. Lastly, they will ensure IT equipment, such as desktops, laptops, monitors, and docking stations, is tracked, maintained, and repaired as needed, and assist in managing the inventory of spare parts, accessories, and consumables. Skills and Requirements Associates or Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 2+ years of experience in desktop or help desk support roles. Proficiency in troubleshooting Windows 10 &11 environments and common desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, VPN, browsers). Familiarity with Active Directory, endpoint management tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune), and basic networking principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
