About the role
A DevOps engineer is responsible for overseeing the software release process. This role involves coordinating, managing, and ensuring the smooth deployment of software applications and updates. Here are some key responsibilities and skills typically associated with the role of a release engineer:
What you'll do here:
Release Management:
Plan, schedule, and manage software releases across various environments (development, testing, production).
Ensure that all releases are properly documented, including release notes and deployment instructions.
Create and manage RFC’s (change Requests).
Complete Lower region and Production Deployments activities.
Build Management:
Design, implement, and maintain the build processes and automation scripts.
Manage and improve the continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) pipelines.
Configuration Management:
Maintain version control and configuration management systems.
Ensure consistency across environments by managing configuration files and settings.
Quality Assurance:
Work closely with QA teams to ensure that releases meet quality standards.
Implement and monitor automated tests as part of the CI/CD pipeline.
Collaboration:
Coordinate with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth and timely releases.
Act as a liaison between different departments to resolve issues and improve processes.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
Monitor the performance and stability of the build and release processes.
Troubleshoot and resolve build or deployment issues in a timely manner.
Documentation and Training:
Create and maintain documentation related to build and release processes.
Train team members on build and release best practices and tools.
What you bring to the table:
Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Travis CI, CircleCI).
Knowledge of build automation tools (e.g., Maven, Gradle, Ant).
Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell, YAML).
Understanding of GitHub Actions and best practices around workflows, jobs, steps, actions and runners to build a CI/CD pipeline.
Relevant experience in software development, DevOps, or release management.
Certifications in related technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator) can be beneficial.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues related to builds and deployments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability in the release process.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada
