Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Diabetes Educator/Clinical Dietitian is part of an interdisciplinary team that provides diabetes education and care for diverse populations. The primary responsibility of the individual is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of diabetes patients by providing individual, group and follow up instruction in healthcare aspects of diabetes management. The Diabetes Educator/Clinical Dietitian uses the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and standards of care to provide care management for patients with diabetes under the supervision and protocol of the organization’s physicians within the scope of practice of the Registered Dietitian certification.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, nutrition education, food and nutrition, dietetics food systems management, or related field.

Preferred/Optional: Master’s degree in human nutrition, nutrition education, food and nutrition, dietetics, food systems management, or related field.

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum Required: Demonstrated proficiency with calculations using fractions, decimals and percentages.

Preferred/Optional: Three years’ experience in clinical nutrition. Experience in diabetes self-management education and care.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required:

State of Wisconsin Certified Dietitian certification.

Registered Dietitian (RD) credential awarded by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification awarded by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) within 24 months of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification awarded by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) at time of hire.
