Position Purpose:
Patient Educator, within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, the American Dietetics Association and the Ohio Dietetics Association, and/or Ohio Board of Pharmacy functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization. The Patient Educator, specific to Diabetes Education, provides consultation and diabetes education to patients, families, staff and physicians, assumes a leadership role in issues relating to diabetes and acts as a change agent to support institutional initiatives pertaining to the care of patients who have diabetes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from school of nursing, dietetics or pharmacy. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferredLicensure / Certification: Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse, registered and licensed dietitian or registered pharmacist in the State of Ohio. Professional certification preferredExperience: Minimum of 3-5 years recent experience in area of specialization preferredDemonstrates leadership and teaching experienceDemonstrates ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member and able to manage stressful situationsBLS Healthcare Provider training requiredWhat You Will Do:
Serves as a role model in the management of select patient populations through direct or indirect careAssesses the learning needs within patient care settings in order to plan, organize, coordinate and participate in development and/or teaching of programs to meet those identified needsParticipates in monitoring, evaluating, reporting and improving standards of care.Consults with the manager regarding patient and staff clinical issues and assists with recommendationsDemonstrates leadership skills in the management of complex clinical situations.Develops, reviews, and revises standards of care, policies, procedures, practice guidelines, and protocols of care to reflect current evidence based practice and changing technologyPromotes, participates in, or conducts on-going research in clinical practice.Participates in community activities sponsored by Mount Carmel.Acts as a resource person for staff members in developing, completing and publishing clinical research.Participates in programs for Healthcare students who are participating in clinical educational experiences within Mount Carmel.Position Highlights and Benefits:
