Job Profile Summary 

​ This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders.  In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Clinical Nurse duties: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care needs of a designated group of patients or provides nursing care and identified clinical support tasks within the scope of practice for achievement of the patient’s plan of care as directed.  Provides professional nursing care to patients. Requires a nursing license.   A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower-level professionals or manage processes and programs.  The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced patient and staff education.   A specialist level role that is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Typically manages large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager, coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower-level professionals, resolving difficult and often complex problems. 

Job Overview

Collaborate with Obstetrical Leadership to establish and manage a gestational/pre-gestational diabetes outpatient program.

• Plan, develop, and implement strategies to meet patient learning needs on individual and group bases.

• Plan, develop, and implement strategies to meet staff learning needs (orientation, in-service and continuing education).

• Select teaching-learning strategies that stimulates critical thinking, flexibility, creativeness and cost effectiveness.

• Establish and maintain appropriate systems for administration and record-keeping, delivery of programs and measurements of effectiveness.

• In collaboration with Nursing Leadership, identify, select, and manage external education resources as necessary to deliver patient education that meets relevant organizational and regulatory standards. • Provide prenatal diabetic consultation, coaching, skill training, product review, and equipment troubleshooting.

Job Description 

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or ability to acquire within one year. 

2. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. 

3. Registered Nurse (RN) license. 

4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 

5. Two (2) years of nursing experience and expertise as required by department. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. OB experience.

2. Master’s degree in Nursing. 

3. Nursing Professional Development Educator Certification. 

4. Three (3) years of relevant nursing experience and expertise as required by department. 

5. Clinical teaching experience. 

6. Prior supervisory experience. 

Physical Requirements:  

1. Regular sitting, occasional standing & walking, and lifting of 5-10 lbs. 

2. Frequent movement about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. 

3. Constantly operates a computer and other standard office equipment such as copy machine, phones, photocopier, fax machines and computer printers. 

4. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard and equipment. 

5. Requires ability to see computer screen and reports. 

6. Frequent exchange accurate information via phone, email and/or in person.  

Skills & Abilities: 

1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel. 

2. Able to communicate appropriately to all levels of staff, nursing leadership and executive leadership. 

3. Self-directed, creative, initiative to develop educational programs. 

4. Ability to read/write and communicate in English.  

5. Ability to communicate appropriately to all levels of staff, clinical leadership and executive leadership. 

6. Ability to function well in very busy situations. 

7. Responsible and reliable. 

8. High level organizational, time management, problem solving and priority setting skills. 

9. Ability to organize responsibilities, make decisions, advocate for new orientees’ learning needs, set limits, and demonstrate critical thinking. 

10. Ability to incorporate and apply the principles of adult learning into educational and training sessions.
