About the role:
The Diagnostic Imaging Technician or Veterinary Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Radiologists and the hospital by facilitating and managing efficient patient care for animals receiving diagnostic imaging. This position involves preparing and transporting patients for imaging procedures, providing restraint during procedures, and managing venipuncture, sedation administration, and monitoring during diagnostic imaging procedures. The Technician will document patient care in the Hospital's PIMS and Whiteboard systems and manage diagnostic imaging requests and associated charges.
Essential Functions:
+ Facilitate the daily schedule of patient care, prioritizing based on feedback from Radiologists and Specialties.
+ Coordinate intake and discharge communication for all outpatient imaging appointments.
+ Maximize DVM time by appropriately preparing for procedures and anticipating their needs.
+ Monitor and position patients during CT scans and ultrasounds, and administer medications as necessary.
+ Prepare and run CT scans per Radiologist orders to obtain diagnostic images on canine and feline patients.
+ Perform venipuncture tasks, including catheter placement, blood draws, and drug administration.
+ Process blood and urine specimens as required.
+ Assist with fluoroscopic procedures under direction of Radiologist.
+ Under the direction of the Specialist and/or Anesthesiologist, administer sedation and/or anesthesia as ordered.
+ Document patient care, diagnostic imaging requests, and associated charges in the Medical Record and Whiteboard systems.
+ Communicate effectively with Technicians and DVMs about imaging procedures, timelines, and scheduling.
+ Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on appropriate positioning and image quality for all modalities within the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
+ Train other staff members on imaging positioning and quality standards.
+ Assist in other departments with RVT/Veterinary Assistant responsibilities based on the needs of the hospital.
+ Maintain a clean and safe CT, x-ray, and ultrasound environment by restricting personnel access and disinfecting between patients.
+ Maintain cleanliness in the hospital by performing general cleaning duties (laundry, sweeping, mopping, etc.).
Compensation:
+ Compensation for this role is between $38 - $49/hr.
Skill Requirements:
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with clients and staff.
+ Ability to multi-task and anticipate department needs in a fast-paced environment.
+ Expertise in managing diagnostic imaging procedures and patient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High School diploma or equivalent required.
+ California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or VACSP required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Minimum 2 years of Veterinary Technician experience in a Specialty Hospital.
+ Experience administering anesthesia.
Physical Requirements:
+ This position is physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, standing, lifting, and restraining animals that may exceed 50lbs.
