Diagnostic Laboratory Technologist
Overview M Health Fairview is looking for a Diagnostic Laboratory Technologist for the Acute Care Laboratory at University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank.  This is a full-time Night shift position (10:45 pm-8:45 am), 3 out of 6 weekends. The Acute Care Laboratory is an engaging work environment focused on patient safety and experience. The patient population is diverse and includes pediatric specialties (both inpatient and outpatient), behavioral health, rehab, and medical-surgical patients. The duties include specimen procurement and handling, receiving, processing (centrifugation and aliquoting of patient samples), managing sample accountability, answering nursing and provider questions, coordinating specimen drops and patient collections, etc. The University of Minnesota Medical Center Acute Laboratories performs clinical hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing. The West Bank Acute Care Laboratory serves a variety of pediatric and adult patients.  The Acute Care team consists of 100 employees, and the laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position is eligible for a Shift Incentive bonus for up to $2,000, paid out every 6 months. Shift Incentive bonus is pro-rated based on FTE. Responsibilities Job Description The DLT functions independently in performing work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A DLT performs waived, moderate, or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA’88. The DLT possesses expertise of the clinical laboratory and performs routine clinical laboratory analysis, recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The DLT correlates data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting test results and performs quality control procedures within established parameters and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education Bachelor’s in a Chemistry or Biological sciences field with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses that include Six semester hours of chemistry and Six semester hours of biology and Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Preferred Education Bachelor’s degree in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88. Experience 2 years documented laboratory training in the specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
