The**University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences**is seeking applicants for a Diagnostic Medical Physics faculty position, preference will be given to applicants with experience in clinical, technical, and regulatory aspects of Nuclear Medicine.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage radiology departmental operations to achieve high performance and quality goals and effectively interact and communicate with others. The candidate must have experience and training in radiation safety regulations, principles, techniques, and nuclear materials handling and the ability to practically apply this knowledge to resolve safety issues. He/she must have knowledge of imaging techniques, processes, and procedures used in diagnostics and the ability to produce images of internal body structures for clinical purposes or medical science. Knowledge of radiography tools, techniques, and applications, and of the equipment used in clinical diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring, as well as the ability to select, procure, maintain, quality check, and dispose of medical equipment in compliance with related policies is also required.
The applicant must be able to perform acceptance testing and quality control of diagnostic imaging equipment. The position requires performing and reviewing shielding calculations, implementing quality control programs, revising and optimizing imaging protocols, and managing protocol doses. The candidate must also estimate patient dose, provide physics support for ACR Accreditation Programs, revise and review departmental and hospital policies, and participate in medical imaging and dosimetry research projects. This position will also provide teaching radiological physics to radiology residents and provide radiation safety training for professional and technical staff.
This position will provide radiological physics services to Radiology’s diagnostic, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine divisions. A Ph.D. is required. All applicants must be eligible to obtain Board Certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.
**Facilities and Institution:**
The**Huntsman Cancer Institute ( HCI ) and the Huntsman Cancer Hospital ( HCH )**provide state-of-the-art facilities on the University of Utah medical campus. HCI / HCH is an NCI -designated comprehensive cancer center equipped with extensive imaging resources, including MRI , CT, intraoperative MRI , research and clinical PET -CT scanners, and preclinical imaging tools like small animal PET - MRI and SPECT /CT. The role includes integration into CQCI activities and involvement in regulatory aspects of investigative imaging agents.
