Summary:
Vighter is seeking multipe x-Ray / Diagnostic Radiology Technologists (RTs) to provide patient care support at the George E. Whalen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located in Salt Lake City, Utah at 500 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84148. Radiology Technologists are responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients to ensure that the quality of the studies adhere to established standards. The Radiology Tech will perform other functions as determined by the Supervisor in expediting the care of the patient.
Principle Accountabilities:
Responsible for providing all regularly performed x-Ray procedures at the VAMC in Salt Lake City, UT Responsible for providing care across the range of Radiology Technologist services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility. The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards. Responsible for critiquing images for quality and notifying the Radiologist, Chief Technologist, or Supervising Technologist of significant exams requiring immediate attention while the patient is undergoing the examination. Follow all established guidelines, any alterations must be done with the approval of the Radiologist on duty. Independently accomplishes procedures, handles deviation in work assignments in line with the previous experience and observations. Uses judgment and initiative, relying on established protocols and past practice when a difficult decision must be made. Must be able to perform common exams as listed below: Chest Abdomen Skull C-T-L Spine Upper Extremity Lower Extremity Fluoroscopic Studies Portable Studies OR Imaging and/or radiological procedures Must adhere to 2025 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) standards /guidelines. Prepares contrast material for fluoroscopic and special procedures under the direction of the Radiologist for the purpose of performing imaging examinations. Must be continuously on the alert to the patient’s condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment. Ensures that all documentation required for the completion of exams is done in VISTA CPRS. Must be certain patient identification and requests are identical. Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist. If deletion for VISTA is required, the proper documentation must be presented for deletion of images from the medical record through the PACS Administrator and/or ADPAC Coordinator. Help to maintain effective control for the Radiology Department by coordinating, organizing and executing the work potential to expedite workflow patterns with the department. Continuously works to develop a cohesive and effective team with other areas of the Radiology Department and with other areas of the entire facility to expedite quality patient care. Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies for general Radiology are available to meet workload demands. Assures that procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies, with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor when supplies are needed. Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner Ensures that all equipment is in proper working order prior to use. Removes and tags defective equipment and notifies DRT Supervisor or Chief Technologist. Responsible for making routine calibration on equipment. Keeps abreast of technological advances in the Radiology field. Successfully completes all required educational classes and successfully receives all Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as governed by the ARRT, to maintain and active status with the ARRT. Completes all education in TMS in a timely manner. Maintains certification in BLS. Work with Medical Support Staff to schedule and prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to patients while performing studies. Obtain pertinent diagnostic examinations for the ordering provider. Correlates the clinical history with the test to be performed. Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Includes the maintenance of patient registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system. Properly identifies patient images. Essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur. The Technologist must be certain the patient ID band and the request are identical. Confirms patient identity by verbally confirming patient name and social security number. Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.Knowledge and Skills:
Must have exceptional customer service skills. Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.Education:
Graduate from an approved School of Radiologic Technology.Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in specialty. Certification: Current certification in Diagnostic Radiology, Advanced CT with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, and ARDMS, and RVT. BLS is required. License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required. Excellent problem-solving skills with a willingness to adapt and innovate as needed. Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:
The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this key position supporting 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.Work Environment:
