Summary
Supports the function of the radiologist and performs various kinds of diagnostic imagining examinations that are crucial for the detection of illness, injury, and other medical conditions. Utilizes various types of imaging equipment to provide physicians with data and images they need to diagnose and treat their patients. Performs radiology exams of designated anatomy and adheres to necessary radiation safety precautions. Functions as a member of the practice clinical care delivery team to provide selected clinical care to patients. Specializes in x-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

Job DutiesAdjusts, maintains, and sterilizes the medical diagnostic imaging equipment, as well as the room in which the testing takes place. Maintains detailed records of procedures the patient received, diagnosis, and other medical notes that are of concern for proper treatment. Performs selected clinical procedures after demonstrating competency. Rooms selected patients as a member of the care delivery team. Completes vital signs on patients after completing the LVPG vital sign competency assessment (i.e. height, weight, head circumference, growth charts, temperature, pulse respiration, blood pressure, and pain screening and any others specific to the practice). Produces images of diagnostic quality; processes and prepares for interpretations by radiologists. Communicates with the radiologist, physician, and other members of the health care team to determine whether more images need to be taken. Explains the procedure to patients prior to beginning, including answering questions and calming any concerns to ensure their comfort. Operates the diagnostic imaging equipment to take the images, while being certain that images are captured from every angle needed to be assessed. Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards and shows evidence of proper radiation protection by use of collimation, lead shielding, and proper distance with documentation.
Minimum QualificationsTechnical School Diploma - Graduate of AMA Accredited Radiology Technician Program 2 years Diagnostic radiology. and Less than 1 year Multi-disciplined radiology department. Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, providers, and clinical staff. Ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Knowledge and deep understanding of anatomy and physiology, since different organs and tissues of the body are more sensitive to radiation. Knowledge of the strict protocols on the amount of radiation supplied to patients.
