The Technician I, Water position performs established routine and/or special technical procedures in one or more of the areas of Environmental Waters. This position also adheres to corporate standard policies and procedures related to job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality. This position reports to the Supervisor, Laboratory (Lab).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Processes water and dialysate tests from receipt in the laboratory to final result
Performs specimen receiving and processingSets up cultures and interprets water and dialysate culturesProcesses endotoxin specimensMakes smears for gram stains for environmental watersProcesses and analyzes water samples for trace metalsReviews and releases results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) •Participates in required Proficiency testing2. Operates instruments:
Performs and documents all calibration, quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting according to established proceduresEnsures proper preparation, handling, storage, and inventory of reagentsReviews workflow reports and reports work activities and pending work to the oncoming technicianEnsures accurate and prompt test results are reported to the appropriate care giver, especially in critical or life threatening situations3. Participates in Laboratory quality improvement program and safety:
Follows established policies and procedures to meet and exceed regulatory and accrediting agencies requirementsPractices infection control and safety precautions and keep a clean and organized work areaMaintains confidentiality of company’s records, clients4. Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
0-2 years of related experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredIntermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook preferredAbout DaVita Laboratories
